TPACK response

I viewed the video Learning Landscape: Kids Monitor Terrain with Tech.  As someone who had never heard of TPACK until yesterday, I thought this was a wonderful example of integrating technology into the classroom all while making it meaningful.  Sometimes I think that teachers use technology in the classroom rather loosely.  Perhaps it’s because the school does not provide dollars to be spent on technology tools, or perhaps it is because some teachers themselves are more “technologically challenged” (I know I am!)  Anyway, this video in which the students actually take the tools outside into the “real” world and use them – is very cool!  For the teachers in the video – they are very up to date on technology, and understand the need to keep on top of new technology as it becomes available.  There were many examples of all of the elements of TPACK – PCK, TCK, and TPK.  As someone new to the TPACK model, I find somewhat difficult to put a specific example with a specific element.  But I will try!  I think the technological knowledge of the teachers is foremost a very important aspect (TCK) and these teachers were definitely “up” on their knowledge of technology!  Their ability to impart that knowledge on their students in a way that makes learning fun is another key aspect (PCK).  Hopefully I was not so very far off in my observations J

  1. Lauri, I too had just heard of the term TPACK yesterday for the first time! I watched the Brown Bear video, but it sounds like you also saw similar examples of integrating all parts of the total package into the classroom. I agree that too many teachers do not have the tools either because of funding or training to properly utilize technology in the classroom. Hopefully through grants and professional development "Technologically challenged" teachers will be given additional help!!
